Here's to 2012...

Since I have always wondered about the song they play at midnight on New Year's Eve, I decided to do some reasearch. According to the Huffington Post, Auld Lang Syne is a Scottish poem, thought to be composed by Scottish poet and lyricist Robert Burns in 1788 and it represents saying goodbye to the past year. Auld Lang Syne literally translates to "Old Long Since," and more roughly it means "long, long ago" or "days gone by."

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely you'll buy your pint cup !
and surely I'll buy mine !
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

Happy New Year!
Here's to the bright New Year, and a fond farewell to the old;
here's to the things that are yet to come, and to the memories that we hold.

Happy Holidays!

Getting ready for the holidays

I will be home for Christmas in exactly a week :)

Fa la la la la Lu and Lolls

Last weekend Courtney and I experienced a whole lot of Christmas spirit, NYC style! We checked out the amazing Christmas display windows at the big department stores, including the Lady Gaga Workshop. We also stopped by the Rockefeller Center tree and discovered the best/cheapest way to make our own microwave popcorn (read: addicted).
We have big holiday plans for next weekend as well, stay tuned.

Thanksgiving

I am so thankful for a wonderful (close-knit and crazy) family and kittenwhiskers, the best friends a girl could have, a great city to live in and the gorgeous November weather we are having, the ability to get a degree in something I love, the technology that lets me keep in touch with people who are far away, and as finals approach I am especially thankful for sweatpants and microwavable dinners from Trader Joe's.
xo!

Some scenes from the 4th of July weekend

Best frand in town for 4 whole days! Weekend highlights: Exeter, NH (American Independence Museum), Providence, NH (Strawberry Banke and Cere's), Kittery Point, ME (Fort Foster), Boston Harborfest, shopping, Deer Island and Winthrop Beach, a sunset cruise on the Charles River, gellato and lunch in Little Italy, the Freedom Trail (including the South Meeting House museum and a special tour of the North Church bell tower and crypt), Revere Beach, and the fireworks extravaganza, where the Boston Pops played and they estimated 750,000 people came to watch. Oh, and we chilled in the room where George Washington ate breakfast AND the place where young Paul Revere was a bell-ringer and probably got his idea to hang the lanterns. Paul actually traveled through time for the celebrations and was kind enough to pose with us in a picture. No biggie.

Happy March 17th

(This post is automated as I am in Africa, but as I would normally be in one of the best cities for St. Patrick's Day...)

NYE

Let's face it, New Year's Eve is the most overrated holiday by far. I have a killer dress though and there's no way I'm wasting it, but a fun NYE is hard to come by. 2010 was a 'meh' year; the first 66% of it was amazing and full of the kinds of changes and adventures I was looking for. The last part of 2010 has left me longining for 2011 to hurry up and get here because I can't take it anymore, I need a new year to toast to. To quote dear Anne Shirley/L.M. Montgomery, "Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it." I hope tomorrow marks the beginning of a new year with a bright new outlook. Cheers, auld lang syne, happy new year.
