Happy Birthday Courtney Lu!

Happy birthday to my BFF, Courtney Dana! Our celebration must wait a couple more weeks but I can't wait to party it up Courtatie style. 'Party it up' is a fancy way of saying we will wear clean sweats and watch a predetermined movie instead of just whatever is on tv. It also means we will make something that is 110% unhealthy for a treat, and I can't wait :)

Here is my birthday ode to Courtney:

Courtney my dear, your birthday is here, that horrible lovable time of the year. But believe me, there is nothing to fear!
You're now 23, six months later than me; oh let me tell you what it's like to be! 
The joy's exponential, we've reached full age potential; enjoying our youth at this point is essential. That won't be a trial, just don't be in denial. We're not adults yet, so sit back and smile ;)
We age like fine wine when given some time; and your vintage is now the exact same as mine.

Fa la la la la Lu and Lolls

Last weekend Courtney and I experienced a whole lot of Christmas spirit, NYC style! We checked out the amazing Christmas display windows at the big department stores, including the Lady Gaga Workshop. We also stopped by the Rockefeller Center tree and discovered the best/cheapest way to make our own microwave popcorn (read: addicted).

We have big holiday plans for next weekend as well, stay tuned.

Some scenes from the 4th of July weekend

Best frand in town for 4 whole days! Weekend highlights: Exeter, NH (American Independence Museum), Providence, NH (Strawberry Banke and Cere's), Kittery Point, ME (Fort Foster), Boston Harborfest, shopping, Deer Island and Winthrop Beach, a sunset cruise on the Charles River, gellato and lunch in Little Italy, the Freedom Trail (including the South Meeting House museum and a special tour of the North Church bell tower and crypt), Revere Beach, and the fireworks extravaganza, where the Boston Pops played and they estimated 750,000 people came to watch. Oh, and we chilled in the room where George Washington ate breakfast AND the place where young Paul Revere was a bell-ringer and probably got his idea to hang the lanterns. Paul actually traveled through time for the celebrations and was kind enough to pose with us in a picture. No biggie.

Piers, Pageants, and Parades

What a fun weekend! Recap in reverse: I spent today wandering around the financial district (on the lookout for a sugar daddy of course) and had a lovely afternoon at the South Street Seaport and Pier 17. I also went to Century 21 for the first time, and it has a lot to offer though I will always prefer TJ Maxx for designer discounts. Yesterday I did a plethora of readings related to my directed study that I'm completing over the summer, and meanwhile prepared a lovely little lunch (polenta seared in garlic butter with sun-dried tomatoes, parmesan chicken, and steamed vegetables) for Courtney and myself. We then headed to 'fake' Shakespeare in the Park, which is at Riverside Park on Sundays for those who aren't cool enough to score tickets to the Central Park version. The production was rudimentary, but still a great little dash of culture to our weekend. We then met up with Jim and Rachel to chat over sorbet and watched the final part of the Miss USA Pageant. On Saturday, of course, we were at ... THE MERMAID PARADE. I can only handle Coney Island once a year, and I won't even tell you what was fried in with my Nathan's Hot Dog french fries, but the mermaids that 'washed ashore' ranged from creative to slutty, funny to intense, and there were some people who apparently did not get the mermaid part of the memo and just thought it was a dress-up-like-anything parade.

I found this sundress at Forever21 for $9 (it was one of their yellow tag deals). I have a feeling this dress is going to be my summer staple. Lightweight, fun, good with sandals or boots, can be dressed up or down, and c'mon it has pockets. I can picture myself in this dress, strolling around Central Park on a sunny Saturday with my bestie, Mr. Softee sprinkle cone in one hand, other hand in pocket. Yep. That is how I make shopping decisions: imagining the best possible scenario the clothes could be involved in.
